About Us & FAQs

Falconium is now the Journal of Youths in Science (JOURNYS). While back issues and archives are still available, this website is no longer being updated. For current issues and submission information, visit www.journys.org. Please update your bookmarks!

Falconium is the premier high school science journal. Our quarterly paper and online issues, which are written completely by students, feature a broad range of scientific, technological, and mathematical articles in the form of original research, reviews, and op-eds. You, too, can get published!

Why we're unique

Unlike most science magazines, Falconium provides the unique opportunity for students, themselves, to get published. Falconium fills the gap between high-end journals, in which publishing is aimed solely towards professionals, and science magazines written for younger children. Through Falconium, all students--authors and readers--benefit: student authors expand their existing knowledge, and readers gain appealing and useful insights from their peers. Falconium allows students to see the impact of what they learn in the classroom in the real world while acquiring an interest in science.

History

Falconium Science Journal was founded in Fall 2008 by Alice Fang at Torrey Pines High School, under the direction and inspiration of our staff advisor, Mr. Brinn Belyea. Our premiere print issue was published in Spring 2009, with the generous sponsorship of UPS and Gen-Probe. Find out more about how Falconium started in the letter from the president.

The 2009-2010 school year brought a great increase in our Torrey Pines High School staff membership and participation, with over 50 regularly contributing authors and leadership team members. The support of Life Technologies has allowed for the regular printing of our issues. Falconium is also joined by a scientist advisory board.

2010-2011 is Falconium's 3rd offical year in publication. With over 90 students actively engaged in the journal at Torrey Pines High School, our current goals include expanding our student audience, starting chapters at other schools, and as always, to produce issues of Falconium that are satisfying to salivating neurons.
